Parkwood United suffered a heavy defeat in our first ever fixture against an experienced Peoples FC side, but the score line does not reflect the whole story.

vs The Peoples FC

Wednesday 25th March 2026

19:45pm Kick-Off

Bayliss Avenue 3G (Home of SC Thamesmead)

Parkwood came into the tie with just a bare squad of 11 men available, already on the back foot before the game had started.

The hosts started the better, and got an early goal from close range, firing past Sam Hood in goal to go 1-0 up on the night. It wasn't long after however when Parkwood responded and equalised, with a ball up the line to Dan Wright who beat his man, finding Vinnie Cook in the box who set up James McGuire who's shot found the bottom left corner making it 1-1 and marking the first goal in Parkwood United history!

More pressure from the hosts followed, with many missed chances, before Peoples grabbed a second goal before half time, with the score at 2-1 at the interval.

Half Time: The Peoples FC 2-1 Parkwood United

Parkwood then started the second half the better, scoring early on with James McGuire once again finding the net for his second of the evening, tying the score once again at 2-2.

The Peoples responded, and quickly went on to grab their third to retake the lead.

The lack of subs available to Parkwood took its toll as fatigue hit, along with injuries, which saw left back Josh McGuire leave the field, saw The Peoples begin to pull away with it, constantly on the attack and scoring plenty.

A further injury to Dan Wright saw a second Parkwood player off the pitch for the last 10 minutes, still at 10 men as Peoples kindly donated a player from their bench to fill in, and in the final 10, the host tapped in from close range to score their ninth and final goal of the evening.

The referee blew the whistle for the final time, as a historic day for Parkwood came to a close.

Full-Time: The Peoples FC 9-2 Parkwood United

A valiant effort from Parkwood United in our first fixture, one that was always going to be tough with limited numbers and coming up against a stronger and fitter team. But certainly many positives to take from our first fixture!

Many thanks to The Peoples FC for hosting, and to everyone who came out to support The Wood but also support a great cause, raising money for Harley!

UP THE WOOD!

Parkwood United Starting XI:
